Membership of the Academy is open to Nigerian educationists and others, and is in four (4) categories:
- Member;
- Fellow
- Institutional member
- Honorary Fellow
Membership is based on exceptional contributions to the theory and practice of education in Nigeria and it is drawn primarily from the University, Research Institute, College of Education, Ministry of Education or its Parastatals.
Full Membership is granted after a successful completion of a probationary period of two years (2) after admission as ordinary member. Each year up to 30 new members may be elected.
