Membership

Types of Membership

Membership of the Academy is open to Nigerian educationists and others, and is in four (4) categories:

  • Member;
  • Fellow
  • Institutional member
  • Honorary Fellow

Membership is based on exceptional contributions to the theory and practice of education in Nigeria and it is drawn primarily from the University, Research Institute, College of Education, Ministry of Education or its Parastatals.

Full Membership is granted after a successful completion of a probationary period of two years (2) after admission as ordinary member.Each year up to 15 new members may be elected.

The Fellowship of the Academy is the highest category of membership, and nomination to this position constitutes the highest honour that the Academy can bestow on its members.

And to open its activities to a broad spectrum of Nigerian educators, certain organisations like subject associations, professional associations catering for special areas of education and Ministry of Education parastatals could be accorded Institutional Membership represented by one person only at the meeting of the Academy.

Honorary Fellowship can be awarded in exceptional cases to non-members of the academy who have made significant contributions to education in Nigeria.

Full details of the Procedure for Election to Membership & Fellowship can be found in the Constitution of the Academy.
